Wir haben uns mit Blisterhead unterhalten und ein ausführliches Interview geführt – über ihre neue Single „Wake Up“, das kommende Album „Where We Belong“, 25 Jahre Bandgeschichte, kreative Rivalität und Zukunftspläne. Schaut unbedingt rein – es ist eines der persönlichsten und spannendsten Gespräche, die wir seit Langem hatten! (English Version Below)

1. Hey zusammen, wie geht’s euch und wo seid ihr gerade?

Uns geht’s super. Wir haben gerade unsere erste Single „Wake Up“ vom kommenden Album veröffentlicht, und die Resonanz ist fantastisch – die beste seit Langem. Momentan arbeiten wir an allem rund um die Band: Promo für die Single, Merch, Planung der kommenden Live-Abenteuer und vieles mehr. Es fühlt sich an, als hätten wir gerade richtig guten Schwung.

2. Euer neues, sechstes Album „Where We Belong“ erscheint bald. Erzählt uns etwas darüber. Wann, wo und über welchen Zeitraum ist es entstanden?

Die Songs sind über ein paar Jahre hinweg entstanden. Wir – also Kim, Erik und ich – schreiben sie gemeinsam. Für mich beginnt es meist damit, dass Erik einen neuen Track schickt. Er ist verdammt gut darin, starke Refrains zu schreiben – so gut, dass ich gleichzeitig begeistert und genervt bin. Dann fühle ich: „Mist, jetzt muss ich etwas genauso Gutes schreiben!“ Es ist ein freundschaftlicher Wettbewerb.

Aufgenommen haben wir das Album mit unserem Freund und Produzenten Sebastian Nero in seinem Studio in Skövde, Schweden. Wir haben die Grundtracks innerhalb weniger Tage komplett live eingespielt und später Vocals, Backings und Soli ergänzt. Der Aufnahmeprozess war unglaublich lustig. Anfangs sind wir immer super konzentriert, aber am Ende wird es meist eine große Studio‑Party mit Leuten, die vorbeikommen, zuhören und mit uns etwas trinken.

Aufnahme, Mix und Mastering fanden im Frühjahr 2025 statt.

3. Wie sieht ein „normaler“ Tag für euch im Studio aus?

Wir kommen meist früh an, trinken Kaffee, essen Kekse und entscheiden, woran wir arbeiten. Wir versuchen, so viel wie möglich live aufzunehmen, um dieselbe Energie einzufangen wie auf der Bühne. Dieses Mal wurde alles live eingespielt – außer Gesang und Backings.

4. Street Punk, Punk Rock, Rock’n’Roll – wie würdet ihr euren Stil beschreiben?

Genau so. Wir lieben Bands wie U.S. Bombs, The Clash und The Humpers. Wir wollen eine Mischung aus Punk Rock und Rock’n’Roll sein – viele Gang‑Vocals, große Refrains, starke Melodien. Nichts Kompliziertes. Mehr Herz als Kopf.

5. Was unterscheidet dieses Album von seinem Vorgänger „The Stormy Sea“?

Auf „Where We Belong“ hatten wir eine klarere Vorstellung von der Richtung. Wir haben viele gute Sänger in der Band und wollten diesmal bewusst nicht alles zu perfekt oder poliert machen. Wir haben uns beim Aufnehmen mehr Einschränkungen gesetzt. Wir sind stolz auf „The Stormy Sea“, aber die Energie, die Stimmung und die Produktion sind diesmal deutlich stärker.

6. Welche Themen haben euch beim Schreiben der Texte am meisten beeinflusst?

Erik und ich schreiben beide Texte. Mir ist wichtig, dass die Inhalte ehrlich sind – starke Meinungen, Frustration oder Gedanken über die Welt oder eigene Schwächen.  

Der Song „Where We Belong“ handelt davon, wie sehr mich Blisterhead – und die Punk‑Szene – geprägt hat. Er spielt in meiner Heimatstadt Falköping, wo viele Freunde irgendwann Pillen und Pulver ihrer Vorstellung von Glück geopfert haben. Ich selbst bin kein Engel, aber es war ein Weckruf. Ich musste etwas tun – also rief ich Erik an, und wir gründeten Blisterhead. Das fühlte sich nach dem richtigen Weg an.

7. Welche Songs auf dem neuen Album würdet ihr hervorheben?

• Not the Living Not the Dead

8. Euer neues Album erscheint bei Sunny Bastards. Wie kam der Deal zustande und wie zufrieden seid ihr?

Wir kennen Sunny Bastards schon lange, da dort viele schwedische Bands veröffentlicht wurden. Wir haben ihnen im Sommer neue Songs geschickt. Die Antwort kam schnell: Sie wollten eigentlich keine neuen Bands signing – aber die Songs seien zu gut, um Nein zu sagen. Guter Musikgeschmack also!  

Wir haben uns auf zwei Dinge geeinigt:  

1. Die neuen Songs sind verdammt gut.  

2. Blisterhead hat noch nicht das volle Potenzial bei Verkäufen und Streams erreicht.  

Genau daran wollen wir jetzt gemeinsam arbeiten. Wir vertrauen dem Label total und freuen uns auf das, was kommt. Das ist erst der Anfang!

9. Ihr existiert seit über 25 Jahren – was ist euer Geheimnis und was plant ihr für die Zukunft?

Es gab Höhen und Tiefen, aber wir wussten immer, was wir musikalisch wollen. Es gibt einen unsichtbaren Rahmen für unsere Songs – flexibel genug, damit wir inspiriert bleiben. Blisterhead ist für mich das Beste im Leben. Das sind meine besten Freunde. Der Schlüssel, zusammenzubleiben, ist einfach Spaß zu haben. Musik ist das Wichtigste – aber das gemeinsame Abhängen und Feiern gehört genauso dazu.  

Unsere Pläne? Mehr Shows in Europa – wir arbeiten gerade daran. Und das neue Album bestmöglich rausbringen und ein großes Publikum aufbauen. Danach haben wir schon weitere Pläne … aber die bleiben geheim. 😊

10. Was fällt euch spontan zu folgenden Begriffen ein?

a. Schwedische Punk‑Bands  

Es gibt so viele großartige Bands. Besonders cool ist, wie gut The Headlines und The Baboon Show unterwegs sind – vor allem live.

b. Grumpy Old Men (Film)  

Keine persönliche Verbindung.

c. Freiheit  

Wir haben das Glück, in einem Teil der Welt zu leben, in dem Freiheit ein Privileg ist. Es ist verrückt, wie viele Länder Meinungsfreiheit einschränken. Wir dürfen unsere Demokratie nicht als selbstverständlich betrachten.

d. Lucifer  

Mir fällt ein Zitat ein, dessen Ursprung ich nicht mehr weiß:  

„Es gibt keinen Himmel, es gibt keine Hölle. Wenn du Freiheit willst, musst du selbst denken.“

e. Live‑Konzert  

Wir lieben es, live zu spielen. Auch wenn ich stolz auf unsere Aufnahmen bin – auf der Bühne entfalten wir unser volles Potenzial. Es werden definitiv mehr Shows kommen.

f. 30 Jahre Blisterhead  

Bald ist es so weit. Wir werden groß feiern – mit Rave‑Versionen unserer Songs, mehr Dance‑Nummern live … das passiert wirklich!

We talked with Blisterhead about their upcoming album Where We Belong, the new single Wake Up, their songwriting process, punk rock roots and plans for the future. Check out the full interview now and get an inside look at a band with over 25 years of history and plenty of momentum ahead.

1. Hey everyone, how are you doing and where are you right now?

Everything’s great. We’ve just released our first single, “Wake Up,” from the upcoming album, and so far the response has been fantastic—our best reception in a long time. Right now, we’re working on a lot of things around the band: promotion for the single, merch, planning upcoming live adventures, and much more. It feels like we’ve got really good momentum at the moment.

2. Your new, sixth album, “Where We Belong,” is out soon. Tell us a bit about it. When, where, and over what period was it created?

The songs came together over a couple of years. It’s me, Kim, and Erik who write them. For me, it usually starts with Erik sending a new track to the band—he’s so damn good at writing strong choruses that I get both excited and annoyed at the same time. Then I feel like, “Shit, now I need to write something just as good!” So it turns into a friendly competition.

The album was recorded by our friend and producer Sebastian Nero in his studio in Skövde, Sweden. We recorded all the basic tracks completely live together over a few days, and then added vocals, backing vocals, and solos afterward. The recording process was incredibly fun. We’re super serious in the beginning, but it almost always ends up turning into a big party in the studio, with people dropping by to listen and have drinks with us.

Recording, mixing, and mastering all happened during spring 2025.

3. What does a “normal” day in the studio look like for you?

We usually arrive pretty early, drink coffee, eat cookies, and decide what we’re going to work on. We try to record as much as possible live, to capture the same energy we have on stage. So everything was recorded live this time—except vocals and backing vocals.

4. Street punk, punk rock, rock ‘n’ roll – how would you describe your style?

Exactly that. We love bands like U.S. Bombs, The Clash, The Humpers. We want to be a mix of punk rock and rock ’n’ roll—lots of gang vocals, big choruses, strong melodies. Nothing too complicated. More heart than brain.

5. In your opinion, what are the differences between this album and its predecessor, “The Stormy Sea”?

On Where We Belong it feels like we’ve been clearer about the direction we want. We have many good singers in the band, and this time we actually tried not to make things too perfect or too polished. We set more limitations for ourselves during the recording. We’re proud of The Stormy Sea, but overall the vibe, energy, and production are much stronger this time.

6. What themes primarily influenced you when writing the lyrics?

Both Erik and I write lyrics. For me personally, it’s important to land on something that resonates with what I honestly feel—strong opinions, frustrations, or reflections about the world, or about personal shortcomings.

The song “Where We Belong” is about being guided by the sense of belonging in Blisterhead and, to some extent, in the punk rock scene. It takes place in my hometown Falköping, where many close friends started prioritising pills and powder as part of their daily lives and their version of happiness. I’m not some clean-living saint, but it was a wake-up call for me—I needed to do something with my life. So I called Erik, and we started Blisterhead. That felt like the way forward: hanging out with friends, playing punk rock, touring, writing songs.

7. Which songs from the new album would you highlight?

    • Wake Up

    • Where We Belong

    • Not the Living Not the Dead

8. The new album is being released by Sunny Bastards. How did the deal come about, and how satisfied are you with it?

We’ve been aware of Sunny Bastards for a long time since they’ve released several Swedish bands. We simply sent them our new songs—middle of the summer, if I remember correctly. They replied saying they didn’t want any new bands, but that our music was too good to turn down. They clearly have great taste. Haha!

We agreed on two very basic things:

    • Our new songs are incredibly good.

    • Blisterhead hasn’t reached its full potential when it comes to album sales and streaming numbers. :)

So that’s what we’re aiming to build together. We have a lot of confidence in the label and are looking forward to continuing the collaboration. This is just the beginning!

9. You’ve been around for over 25 years – what’s your secret, and what plans do you have for the future?

We’ve had our ups and downs, but we’ve always been pretty sure about what we want to do musically. There’s an invisible framework for how we write songs—big enough that we stay inspired and have room to move. Blisterhead is the most fun thing in my life. These are my best friends. A key to staying together is simply trying to have a good time. Music is the most important thing, of course, but the partying and the hanging out with the band and everyone around it is almost just as important.

Our plans? To start playing more consistently around Europe—we’re working on that now. And to get this record out in the best way possible and build a big audience. Then we’ve got plans for after this album too, but they’re still secret. 😊

10. What comes to mind when you hear the following words:

a. Swedish punk rock bands

There are so many great Swedish punk rock bands. Among the ones currently touring, it’s awesome to see how well The Headlines and The Baboon Show are doing. They’re great—especially live.

b. Grumpy Old Men (film)

Unfortunately, I have no personal connection to that film.

c. Freedom

We’re lucky to live in a part of the world where we have the privilege to feel free. It’s insane that so many countries restrict people’s freedom of expression and political opinion. We can’t take our freedom and democracy for granted.

d. Lucifer

A quote comes to mind, though I don’t remember who wrote it:

“There is no heaven, there is no hell. If you want your freedom, you must think for yourself.”

e. Live concert

We love playing live, and even though I’m proud of our recordings, it’s on stage that we reach our full potential. There will definitely be more live shows coming up.

f. 30 years Blisterhead

Yes—soon we’ll hit 30 years as a band. We’re going to celebrate big. That’s when we’ll record rave versions of our songs, add more dance numbers to the live show… It’s going to happen!
